Following the success of RAGTIME and MEMPHIS British textile artist and designer Margo Selby introduces JIVE, a collection of woven fabrics for upholstery and soft furnishings designed exclusively for Osborne & Little. Named after the raucous mid twentieth century dance, these structured designs are complex and energetic. The patterns feature clean lines and bold shapes, realised in Margo’s distinctive harmonious colour combinations.
Bossa Nova: A bold, graphic velvet. The intersecting shapes are woven in both looped and cut piles, creating depth and texture. The zig-zagging pattern evokes three-dimensionality and angular dynamism.
Carioca: The predominantly wool fabric Carioca is a complex vertical stripe progression, making direct reference to Margo’s design process of yarn-winding and her handweaving practice. The precise variations of colour proportions expand and contract, creating a dynamism – like a musical scale or an optical machine.
Gavotte: The intricate block pattern of Gavotte is developed from Margo’s handweaving practice; its design clearly references the mechanics of weaving – intersecting orthogonals – the warp and the weft.
Mambo: Within the precise block patterns found in traditional quilting practice is an improvisational approach to colour – the Mambo design refers to this. The stepped pattern creates an architectural three-dimensionality. Margo’s handwoven artworks are evoked.
Motown: A geometric jacquard fabric of contrasting colours in circles, triangles and squares. The design references mid-century typography and the dynamic energy of a musical scene in full swing.
Bolero: A geometric cut velvet pattern, takes a diamond motif on a journey through scale, symmetry and rhythmic repetition. The intersecting shapes are woven in both looped and cut piles, creating depth and texture.
